FDA Now Testing Pet Foods for Salmonella

This week, the FDA announced that in October it began testing commercial dog and cat food, including treats, for the presence of salmonella.

This measure is aimed at curbing potential illness in owners —between 2006 and 2007, salmonella-contaminated pet food was linked to sickness in 70 people.
